| Bio: | One of these days I'll actually get around to updating this bio. For now, however, let me just offer you some insight: it's based on the 100 things about me meme, but I just couldn't be normal and write them all in one list. Also, I figure I'll come up with many more than 100, eventually. They're scattered throughout my entries, and the more recent ones are tagged. I'll be going through & tagging all my old entries too, but I expect that to take awhile. Meanwhile, here's the link to my "n things about me" entries. As well as this journal, I've created and co-host a community about food here on LJ, it's called A basic intro to me can be found here. I've lived in West Philadelphia since August 2002, and as of July 2003 have moved into an apartment with my beloved The break from the regular work world worked nicely; the writing, sadly, did not. Or at least, the completion of any one piece of writing did not. I'm still working on that, but will likely have a job soon, as well. One of the things that I've realized during my year off is that I may not want to continue in my current field (computers). Not sure yet what direction I want to work toward, so I may stay in the field until I get a better idea. On the other hand, I may just do temp office work. We'll see what works out. And I'll keep trying to write. I grew up in rural Missouri, and I've lived in a several places since (most recently before this was Brooklyn for 4 years. Before that I was in Tucson for ~10 years.) I want to eventually live on Mars. Yes, really. I've a big fluffy black ~17-year old cat named Banzai that I adore beyond any reason, and a smallish (compared to Banzai, anyway) ~2-year old jellicle boy who is the sweetest, most snuggly kitty ever. I'm not always easy to be around; some will even say usually not. I say "screw them". I'm self-confident, opinionated and mostly social-signal blind. I don't have the patience to try to figure out snide comments, cryptic remarks or things that I magically "ought to know". This means that if you have a problem with me and don't tell me about it directly, I probably won't get it. You'll be frustrated, and I'll be confused (and likely annoyed rapidly thereafter). That said, I believe very strongly in courteous communication. Even if you dislike someone, have problems with them or don't agree, there's no need to be nasty about it, and unnecessary nastiness is another thing that I simply don't have the patience for. While I've dated exclusively men for the past 5 years or so, I still identify most strongly with the lesbian community, and that's where I tend to be most comfortable socially. If you add me as a friend(which REALLY ought to be named something else, as it's actually a simple freaking reading list - and it shouldn't be so cloyingly pseudo-personal) and I don't add you back, I hope you're not offended. Truth be told, I may not even notice for awhile (if at all) that I've been added or dropped. It's just not something I keep tabs on. My reading list already overwhelms me most days, and I try not to create more overwhelming situations for myself than just happen in the natural course of life. I'm very likely to pop in on your journal from time to time anyway...I just can't commit to making it a regular thing. For some of those same reasons, I sometimes take awhile to respond to posts or reply to comments. My bio used to talk about my being quirky. I'm probably not actually quirky; I'm probably just weird. I'm good with that, it's worked fine for me so far. I'm exceedingly shy and I do not trust easily. This makes the being weird thing a good filtering mechanism. Finally: Enter this journal at your own risk. It's MY journal, and I won't tolerate snarkiness (of the nasty variety, anyway. The fun variety is just, well...fun!) I reserve the right to delete comments that I consider attacks (or even just nasty), ban those who make them and report nasty people to LJ Abuse. I am NOT. big. on. drama, and will eliminate it whenever possible. No refunds, no returns, and no whinging. Enjoy! last updated 10/03/03 "Liberty is not a thing for the great masses of men. It is the exclusive possession of a small and disreputable minority, like knowledge, courage, and honor. It takes a special sort of man to understand and enjoy liberty - and he is usually an outlaw in democratic societies." -- H.L. Mencken I've used my memories list as an index (though I'm always behind on the filing), go there to find relevant info about my life! | |||||||||
